Vivo has officially introduced its first foldable smartphone – the Vivo X Fold . The foldable power pack has a lot of technical sophistication. Including six cameras and the latest Snapdragon SoC that can rival any flagship smartphone in 2022.
- The X Fold is Vivo’s first foldable smartphone.
- Vivo’s X Fold features Zeiss optics and Snapdragon 8G1 priced at ~$1,300.
- Vivo is also launching its X Note with a huge display.
Vivo X Fold: Specifications
At first glance, the Vivo foldable does not appear to have any weaknesses. It has a 6.53-inch AMOLED display on the outside for folded operation. When opened, we find an 8-inch AMOLED E5 display. Both screens are high definition with a 120Hz refresh rate and support for HDR10+. The main display is an LTPO 2.0 panel that enables dynamic refresh rates down to 1 Hz.
With the X Fold, Vivo uses not just one, but two ultrasound scanners in the display. The device differs from the Galaxy Z Fold 3 with its side-mounted fingerprint sensor. But similar to Samsung’s foldable device, the X Fold’s hinge is hidden when the main display is fully open.
As for the internal hardware, it is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC that powers the Vivo X Fold. This is joined by 12 GB of RAM and 256/512 GB of non-expandable storage. The battery has a capacity of 4600 mAh and has a 66 watt fast charge function. According to the Vivo, it only takes 37 minutes to fully charge the battery. There’s also fast 50W wireless charging and 10W reverse charging.

Cameras, availability and prices of the Vivo X Fold
Vivo has certainly not skimped on the camera with its foldable smartphone. There are four cameras with Zeiss optics on the back. The main camera consists of the GN5 sensor from Samsung with 50 MP and f/1.8 aperture that was introduced last year. There is also an 8 MP periscope (5x optical zoom) with OIS similar to the main sensor, a 12 MP telephoto lens and a 48 MP ultra-wide camera. Each display houses a 16-megapixel selfie camera.
The Vivo X Fold runs Android 12 and will be available first in China this month with a starting price of 8,999 yuan. There are black, gray and blue variants to choose from.

Also new: Vivo X Note with a huge 7-inch display
Along with the X Fold, the Chinese company also introduced the Vivo X Note with a huge display and flagship specs. The X Note somewhat blurs the line between smartphones and tablets as it sports a 7-inch AMOLED panel with a QHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It’s slightly larger than the flagship Galaxy S22 Ultra and iPhone 13 Pro Max , but weighs the lightest of the three.
The X Note is also waterproof according to IP68 and offers a large ultrasonic fingerprint sensor in the display. According to Vivo, the fingerprint sensor in the display is 50,000 times more secure if you use two fingers instead of one when scanning. On the rear is the same quad camera arrangement and Zeiss optics as the X Fold, but the main sensor has been replaced with a larger 50MP Isocell GN1 sensor.
Under the hood is a Snapdragon 8G1 chip paired with 8 or 12 GB of RAM. The 5000 mAh battery can be filled quickly because the X Note is equipped with an 80 W quick charge function. The giant smartphone is advertised as being able to charge from 0 to 100% in just 32 minutes.
The Vivo X Note will be priced at 6000 yuan (about 867 us dollars). It will be available in China in April – unfortunately there is no information about availability in US yet.
