Since Xiaomi likes to be the first to introduce new flagships, we can expect the Xiaomi 13 this year. Now there are rumors that the manufacturer is already relying on the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 – the next top processor from Qualcomm. The new chipset is said to use a new architecture and be based on the efficient 4-nanometer process.
- Xiaomi 13 will come with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2
- Qualcomm is to introduce a new CPU architecture
- The processor’s new cores offer up to 30 percent faster performance
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will come with a new CPU layout and cores
According to the latest leaks, Qualcomm’s next flagship SoC Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will be called SM8550. While not a surprise, the new chip will get a unique CPU configuration of 1+2+2+3. It’s the same 8-core design, but the company will introduce more powerful Cortex cores that promise up to 30 percent more performance.
A more powerful Adreno 740 GPU is also deployed along with this new processor design. Unfortunately, there are no details on how this new graphics unit will compare to the current Adreno 730 in the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and the base model SD 8G1.
Qualcomm usually announces its SoC refresh at the end of the year. We expect the SD 8G2 to be officially unveiled sometime in November and Xiaomi to follow with the Xiaomi 13 event.

Xiaomi 12 Ultra with Leica optics
The upcoming Xiaomi 12 Ultra will likely come with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 rather than the SD 8G2. The flagship smartphone is highly expected to feature Lecia-branded quad cameras. Additionally, the leaked third-party rendered images also show a new rear camera hump design and curved display for the Xiaomi 12 Ultra.
