To celebrate its first anniversary of independence from Huawei, Honor has teased its own foldable. The new smartphone will be called ” Magic V “. The company posted an image on its Twitter and Weibo accounts showing a semi-folded device without revealing too many details.
TL;DR
- Honor has previewed its first foldable smartphone.
- The device is rumored to be similar to Huawei’s Mate X range.
- The Honor Magic V will come with flagship specs and will be “released soon”.
In his Twitter post, Honor already showed a first picture of the new smartphone. And although the former Huawei subsidiary has not yet released a foldable, there is talk of the company’s “first foldable flagship”. The tweet thus suggests that Honor’s new smartphone could be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 .

In the Weibo post, the brand announced that the device “will be released soon” without providing details on an expected launch date. According to George Zhao, Honor’s CEO, the Magic V will be a ” leading foldable in 2022 “.
Latest Snapdragon processor on board?
According to the leaker Digital Chat Station, the Magic V is not only equipped with the Snapdragon 8g1 SoC, it should also be available in January 2022. Back in September, it was posted on the same profile that the device will have a similar form factor to the Mate X2 , with an inward-folding screen. Just like the Galaxy Z Fold series and Oppo’s recently unveiled Foldable .
Let’s just hope it’s not simply a rebrand of the Mate X2, which at the very least brings updated specs like the Magic 3 range did over the Mate 40 models . Speaking of Honor’s former parent company, Huawei will show off its first compact foldable on December 23, dubbed the P50 Pocket. It will have a camera module design similar to that of the Honor 50/Huawei Nova 9 siblings .
